The Blue Bulls on Friday registered a clean sweep of victories on the final day of the Northern Amateur Provincial Competition at Loftus Versfeld to emerge as the Cup and Plate winners.

The Blue Bulls defeated their Gauteng rivals, the Golden Lions, 24-23 in an epic final to finish the competition unbeaten and clinch the title. The Blue Bulls XV, meanwhile, thumped the Pumas 40-20 in the Plate final.

The Limpopo Blue Bulls, which operate as a sister union to the Pretoria-based side, also emerged victorious as they edged the Pumas Lowveld 27-24.

In the other match the Leopards finished the tournament with the same enthusiasm and impressive form as that with which they started, with the team registering a resounding 52-15 win against the Valke.

The clean-sweep of victories for the Blue Bulls sides completed a thrilling week of rugby in Pretoria, and marked a memorable competition for the union on their home patch.

The amateur weeks will continue in Saldanha on Monday as the Southern Amateur Provincial Competition kicks off. This leg features Western Province, SWD, Border, Eastern Province, EP Country Districts, Boland, Border Country Districts and the Boland XV.

This will be followed by the Central Amateur Provincial Competition.
