Australian referee Paul Marks has been dropped from the Super 14 officials panel, according to The Australian newspaper.

The Australian said today that Marks was removed after his controversial handling of the New South Wales Waratahs versus Sharks match in Sydney last weekend.

Marks was criticised by Sharks coach John Plumtree after he failed to award the South African team a penalty try when Kurtley Beale knocked down a pass that appeared to deny the Sharks a late try.

The Sharks lost 25-21, their fourth successive loss of the season.

SANZAR referees chief Lyndon Bray said a penalty try should have been awarded, according to The Australian.

South African official Pro Legoete was also dropped by the referees’ selection panel.

Good call on Marks, But I’d simply drop all the Aussies!

Not sure what Pro Legoete did to deserve being dropped. I thought he was great when he replaced Kaplan in the Sharks v Cheetahs match. Looked a promising referee.

I think it is more a case of getting him to the right level and then introducing him back into the game.
Andre Watson is protecting Pro and I think also the the SA referee system. Good on him.
Rather have Pro work on some problem areas and then put him back.

Looks like a good referee in the making. At least he is consistent. Only problem I have with him, is the fact that he is very easily intimidated. So players shouting at him on the field influences his decisions sometimes.
