Loading...The Springbok Sevens team started the HSBC Paris Sevens in impressive fashion on Friday, beating England 24-5 in their opening pool C encounter in Stade Jean Bouin in the French capital.
The Blitzboks had to work hard for their points, but kept calm when on attack and created spaces for speedster Seabelo Senatla, who scored all four his team’s tries. Two Cecil Afrika conversions completed the scoring tally.
The four tries scored by the winger increased his total to 58 for the season and Senatla will go into Day Two’s play as the leading points’ scorer in the series (280).
He is only the second Blitzbok to score four tries in a match, with Fabian Juries the other.
The Springbok Sevens captain, Philip Snyman, was happy with the performance, which saw his team score 24 unanswered points following a try by England in the opening minute.
“We ticked most boxes today, but not all. We still need to be more aggressive at ruck time, but we did create some space on attack and that resulted in a number of good tries. We needed to build some sort of foundation and it was important for it to be solid, so that we can continue on that tomorrow and Sunday.”
The Springbok Sevens play Brazil (12h42) and Australia (16h15) in their remaining pool C matches on Saturday.
