Record attendance in sight as fans snap up more than 42,000 tickets ahead of Saturday’s rugby showpiece between Glasgow Warriors and Leinster at Celtic Park

Former Scotland and Glasgow Warriors rugby captain Al Kellock has issued a rallying call to the people of Glasgow to fill Celtic Park on Saturday, May 25 to watch Glasgow Warriors take on Leinster in front of a potentially record-breaking crowd in the Guinness PRO14 Final.
The ex- Glasgow Warriors star, who led the team to its first PRO12 Championship in 2015, has called on the city to show its support by buying tickets. He hopes it will be the day’s biggest final, surpassing the expected 49,000 attendance at Hampden Park for Saturday’s Scottish Cup Final between Heart of Midlothian and Celtic, which takes place earlier in the day.

Ticket sales for the historic rugby clash, the first Guinness PRO14 Final to be played at a traditional football venue and the first major rugby fixture to be held at Celtic Park, have already broken the 42,000 mark and are on course to break last year’s record crowd for a PRO14 Final of 46,092 between Leinster and Scarlets set at the Aviva Stadium in Dublin.

He said: “This is a hugely exciting weekend for sport in Glasgow and I would encourage everyone in the city and Scotland as whole to get along to Celtic Park for what will be an historic occasion for rugby, and sport in general.

“More than 42,000 tickets have been sold already and it looks like we’re on track to smash the record attendance set at last year’s final in Dublin which would be a tremendous achievement.

“I believe we can eclipse the 49,000-strong crowd expected in the south side of the city for the Scottish Cup Final and call on the people of Glasgow to snap up their tickets now to fill Celtic Park for what will be a truly memorable occasion.

“With more than 100,000 people coming to Glasgow this weekend for two great sporting occasions, the city will be the undisputed sporting capital of Europe this weekend.”

Tickets for the Guinness PRO14 Final are still available with prices starting at just £25 for adults and £1 for children. For more information visit www.pro14rugby.org/finaltickets
