One of them served for 11 years as Australia’s Prime Minister in a decorated 33-year political career; another was a trailblazing Sex Discrimination Commissioner and current NSW Australian of the Year; and another of them guided the Qantas Wallabies to the 2015 Rugby World Cup Final.

The Hon. John Howard OM AC, Elizabeth Broderick AO, and Qantas Wallabies Head Coach Michael Cheika are just three of Australia’s most highly respected leaders from a range of industries who are offering their experiences and guidance to nine lucky bidders in the aid of the development of girls Rugby.

The trio are among nine eminent Australians, whom all share a personal connection with the game of Rugby, who have offered their services for the Australian Rugby Foundation Business Leaders Auction to raise funds to kick-start Rugby’s efforts to establish Sevens competitions for girls in schools across the country.

The distinguished list of industry leaders includes current ARU Board Director and Carnival Australia Executive Chairman, Ann Sherry AO and fellow ARU Board Director and Microsoft Australia Managing Director, Pip Marlow.

Also on board for the live auction is founding Virgin Australia Chief Executive, Brett Godfrey; leader of the Sydney 2000 Olympic bid team, Rod McGeoch AM; Chairman of the Citidel Group, Kevin McCann AM; and Museum of Contemporary Art Director, Elizabeth Ann MacGregor OBE.

The auction has already attracted strong interest and is running now until October 21 at Slattery Auctions. The highest bidders will win a two (2) hour session with their chosen leader to access rare insights into their journey to the top within each of their industries.

ARU Board Director and former Sex Discrimination Commissioner, Elizabeth Broderick AO, said: “Witnessing the women take gold at the Rio Olympics was one of the great moments in Rugby. It reminded me that when Rugby is a game for all, not only do our talented women and girls win, but so does the game.

“I am delighted that these eight incredible individuals have joined me for this opportunity. We are determined to see the establishment of a genuine schools competition for girls in Rugby Sevens.

“We hope that businesses and corporations across the country take advantage of this once-in-a-generation opportunity to access these great leaders, while supporting our next generation of women’s Rugby players.”

The Australian Rugby Foundation (ARF) is the national foundation for Rugby in Australia. The ARF was established to drive greater investment in Rugby from the grassroots to the elite and to improve Australia’s Rugby connections to its supporters around the globe. It exists to support four main pillars; grassroots Rugby; women in Rugby; Indigenous Rugby; and players who have suffered serious injury.
