PRETORIA, South Africa, 13 December 2016 – The Beast and the Legend have been united – and no, it’s not a fairy tale or the storyline behind a new action movie. Instead, it’s a landmark brand association between world-renowned Springbok rugby player Tendai Mtawarira and the mighty Ford Mustang.
‘Beast’, as the muscular loosehead prop is commonly known, has been announced as a brand ambassador for Ford Performance, creating one of the most powerful and formidable man-machine combinations ever seen in South Africa.
As the ‘face’ of Ford Performance for the next six months, Mtawarira will be driving the legendary Ford Mustang, which is the flagship of the brand’s local line-up. The Mustang is arguably the world’s most famous and iconic automotive nameplate with an unparalleled legacy spanning 52 years and featuring in over 9 000 films, TV shows, music videos and games.

Getting behind the wheel of an exclusive Mustang is a privilege in its own right. But for a man befitting his stature, strength and extreme level of fitness, Beast’s new ride is no ‘ordinary’ Mustang.
The already impressive Mustang 2.3 EcoBoost Fastback has been to the gym for a serious workout by the team from Laz Performance in Centurion, an approved Ford Performance supplier of aftermarket parts for ST and Mustang model ranges.
Beast’s Mustang received the exclusive ROUSH Performance Level 2 upgrade, which represents the pinnacle of enhancements for the 2.3 EcoBoost model, and costs approximately R300 000.
In terms of cosmetics, the serious intent of this attention-grabbing red ROUSH Mustang is dialled to the maximum thanks to the aggressive front fascia kit, hood scoop, quarter panel side scoops, rocker winglets, and bold rear spoiler.
Cast aluminium Quicksilver 20-inch rims finished in black are complemented with high-performance low-profile tyres, ROUSH windshield banner and special decals that trace the centreline of the car from front to back. The unique finishing touch, fittingly, includes the ‘Beast’ inscription below the side scoops.
There’s plenty to talk about under the skin too, with the 2.3-litre EcoBoost four-cylinder engine benefitting from the full gamut of ROUSH enhancements, comprising the ROUSH ECO Cold Air Induction upgrade, performance exhaust kit and the specially developed 2.3 EcoBoost Level 2 Flash Pack.
This unleashes a scorching 280kW from the remarkable EcoBoost unit, up 47kW compared to the standard specification – while retaining a comprehensive three-year/60 000km drivetrain warranty.
