Springboks Oupa Mohoje, Warren Whiteley, Jesse Kriel, Bongi Mbonambi and Jaco Kriel treated 400 high school learners from across the Lowveld to a special #LoveRugby school assembly at the Mbombela Stadium in Nelspruit on Wednesday morning.

The stadium is the venue for the first Test in the Castle Lager Rugby Championship between the Springboks and Argentina on Saturday.

The assembly started with a fun interview section, with the Springboks seated on stage and each one sharing his playing and life experiences with the excited group of Grade 11 learners. Apart from that, they also gave the learners and their teachers a unique glimpse into the lives of the Springboks, by answering a list of questions from the assembly.

Mohoje had the following words of advice to the group: “I really hope you guys enjoy this day. I think some of my best times were making memories with my schoolmates. Time flies so fast and I think you guys should enjoy everything you have right now because you’ll definitely be looking back on it in a few years’ time.”

Some of the answers had the assembly roaring with laughter while the Boks’ also gave away five sets of double tickets to a lucky pair of winners from each school. They were also treated to an electric dance performance by former two-time world hip-hop champion Blake Williams from Cape Town.

The assembly ended with the players and pupils gathering for a special group photo on the main stand of the stadium.

Meanwhile, in another part of Nelspruit, Adriaan Strauss, Francois Louw and Julian Redelinghuys brought morning traffic to a standstill when they handed out match tickets to motorists in the city centre. The players took to the streets with their now familiar “Hoot if you #LoveRugby” posters. The impromptu event quickly attracted a lot of excited onlookers, who could not resist the opportunity of a few quick selfies.
