THE Boland Cavaliers have secured their place in the semi-finals of the Currie Cup First Division competition after beating the Welwitschias 24-26 in Swakopmund this past Saturday.

After finishing fourth on the final log standings, the Cavaliers will travel to Welkom this coming weekend to face the first-placed Griffons. The Falcons, who finished second on the overall log, will host the Leopards (third) in the second semi-final match of the First Division.

The Namibian Welwitschias delivered a strong first half performance as they managed a solid 19-7 lead at half-time. But the Cavaliers showed great character to fight back as flyhalf Elgar Watts scored the winning try in the final minute of the match

Sergio Torrens (left wing), Gerrit van Wyk (replacement wing) and Alcino Izaacs (outside centre) scored the rest of Boland’s tries, while Watts (2) and Adriaan Carelse (1) added three conversions between them.

In the SA Rugby U.20 Championship competition, Boland’s u.20 side will also travel to Welkom to face their Griffons counterparts in the semi-finals of this competition.

Both these matches will be taking place at the H.T. Pelatona Stadium with the U.20’s match kicking off at 13:30 and the Cavaliers vs Griffons match kicking off at 15:30.
