Boland, WP, Griquas stamp authority at Iqhawe Week

Loading...Boland, Western Province and Griquas continued to stamp their authority at the Under-15 Carfind.co.za Iqhawe Week at the Bill Jardine Stadium in Johannesburg as they remained the only unbeaten teams at the conclusion of the exciting second round on Tuesday.
Boland will battle it out with Western Province in the prestigious final match on Thursday, as the teams enjoy a rest day on Wednesday.

The team from Wellington built on their fine performance in the tournament on Monday as they secured a comprehensive 50-0 victory against Free State. The Bolanders ran riot on attack thanks to a combination of their impressive handling skills, support play and good vision on attack, while they also showed commitment on defence to deny the Bloemfontein side from scoring a single point. Such was the high quality of their attack they scored eight tries, with fullback Donaldo Samuels, winger Ashwin Swartz and scrumhalf Kairan Moos each touching down twice.

A balanced performance by Western Province in which they showed flair on attack and stood their ground up-front secured them to a convincing 29-3 victory against the Blue Bulls. The Capetonians dominated possession in the first half and applied pressure on attack, which steered them to a 12-3 halftime lead, and they continued to make their presence felt in the second half to finish the match with an impressive five tries.
Griquas also built on their victory on Monday as they overpowered the Pumas 22-7 thanks to their four tries to one. The team from Mpumalanga held a narrow 10-7 lead at the break following a tightly contested first half, but they found their rhythm in the second half and broke away on the scoreboard.
Hosts, the Golden Lions, delivered a dominant performance from the outset against Eastern Province to secure a 26-5 victory, with their determined efforts earning them four tries – two of which were scored by winger Loyiso Balayo. They supported this solid attacking display with a fine defensive effort, which limited the boys from Port Elizabeth to one try.
SWD’s ability to convert their try-scoring chances earned them a 19-5 victory against the Valke, as they crossed the chalk three times, while their solid defence saw them leak only one. The George side took a 12-5 lead and they maintained their composure in the second half to see out the victory.
Border’s structured game plan, meanwhile, paved the way for their 24-5 victory against KZN. The team stuck to their structures on attack and did well to round off their point-scoring chances, and the rewards followed as they scored four tries – with flyhalf Sophumelela Mtoba and winger Likhona Ntalantala each scoring braces. KZN in turn battled to make their presence felt, and earned only five points from a late try.
The Leopards held their nerve in a hard-fought clash against the Griffons for a 28-21 victory after taking a narrow 8-7 lead at the break. The first half was tight as neither team was able to stamp their authority, but the Leopards outscored their neighbours four tries to two in the second half for their first victory of the tournament.
