Defending SARU Women’s Interprovincial champions Border, and 2014 finalists, the Blue Bulls, maintained their unbeaten runs in Section A of the competition on the weekend as they registered convincing victories against Western Province and SWD respectively to top the log standings.

KwaZulu-Natal, meanwhile, won their first match of the tournament in the other Section A clash as they pipped Eastern Province 15-14 at the Nelson Mandela Metropolitan University.

In the B Section, meanwhile, Free State, Boland and the Leopards continued their winning ways as they secured their second victories in as many matches.

Border, who secured back-to-back Women’s Interprovincial titles last season, showed their class by outplaying Western Province 33-12 as they scored five tries to only two by the Cape side. Springbok Women’s flank Lamla Momoti scored two tries, while flyhalf and vice-captain Zintle Mpupa slotted over four conversions and scored a try to guide the side to victory following their encouraging 19-0 halftime lead.

The Blue Bulls, meanwhile, were rampant against SWD at Loftus Versfeld as they crossed the tryline eight times and denied the George side from scoring a single point. The hosts started the clash steadily and secured a 15-0 halftime lead, but the floodgates opened in the second half as the team ran in tries at will to accumulate 51 points. With SWD on the back-foot, they had no reply and finished the match scoreless.

In Potchefstroom the Leopards delivered a solid performance on attack and defence against the Limpopo Blue Bulls, which set them up for a rewarding 47-10 victory. The Leopards worked their way to a 17-5 halftime lead and found their rhythm in the second half, which allowed them to break away completely to finish the match with an impressive nine tries.

The Free State also stamped their authority against the Griffons as they cruised through to the tryline seven times for an emphatic 41-0 victory.

In the other Section B matches, Boland defeated Griquas 29-5 and the Golden Lions and Valke played to a 12-12 draw in Vanderbijlpark.
