The Northen Hemisphere’s International season kicks off this weekend with the start of their annual RBS Six Nations Championship. The tournament consist of the four home unions, England, Ireland, Wales and Scotland along with France and Italy.

The tournament started in 1883 as the Home Nations Championship, which was also the first international rugby union tournament and consisted of England, Ireland, Wales and Scotland. In 1910 the tournament welcomed France as it changed to Five Nations Championship. Italy joined in 2000 as the tournament again changed it’s name, this time to Six Nations Championship.
England and Wales share the most title wins with 26 each, followed by France on 17, Scotland on 14 and Ireland on 13. Since the Six Nations era started in 2000, only Italy and Scotland have failed to win the Six Nations title, although Scotland were the last winners of the Five Nations.
England holds the record for the most Grand Slams with 12, one more than Wales on 11. France have 9 and Ireland 2.
