Morgan Piek – With a number of big names missing from the Crusaders line-up due to injuries and transfers the Crusaders have name a well balanced squad to travel to Auckland to face the Blues at Eden Park in the opening game of the 2012 Super Rugby competition.

Some of the missing names are 2011 IRB Rugby World Cup winning captain and All Black folk hero Richie McCaw and Dan Carter. Both are out with injuries. The ever dangerous and sensational Sonny Bill Williams has moved to the Waikato Chiefs.

Interestingly, 2012 will see four brothers in the Crusaders squad; Adam, George, Luke and Sam Whitelock. This has to been the first for Super Rugby. What makes it more remarkable is that they will all be in the match day twenty-two. They’re all tall lads and play either lock or flank. They all have the ability to play flank or lock or vice versa should the need arise.

Crusaders:

1. Wyatt Crockett, 2. Quentin MacDonald, 3. Ben Franks, 4. Tom Donnelly, 5. Samuel Whitelock, 6. George Whitelock, 7. Matt Todd, 8. Kieran Read (capt), 9. Andy Ellis (vice capt), 10. Tyler Bleyendaal, 11. Israel Dagg, 12. Ryan Crotty, 13. Robbie Fruean, 14. Sean Maitland, 15. Tom Marshall

Reserves:

 16. Corey Flynn, 17. Owen Franks, 18. Luke Romano, 19. Luke Whitelock, 20. Willie Heinz, 21. Tom Taylor, 22. Adam Whitelock.
