The Brisbane Global Tens tournament unveiled today as a fixture of the Investec Super Rugby calendar from 2017 will be a smash hit with both players and fans, BNZ Crusaders and All Blacks fullback Israel Dagg believes.

Dagg, who represented the BNZ Crusaders at today’s launch in Auckland, said he was already looking forward to playing in the exciting new format.

“I can’t wait to be involved in the Brisbane tens,” Dagg said. “This looks like it will be a really unique competition that players are going to love competing in and that fans will love getting into as well.”

Played at Brisbane’s incredible Suncorp Stadium on February 11 and 12, the Brisbane Global Tens features all 10 New Zealand and Australian Super Rugby clubs plus French powerhouse Toulon, Japan’s Robbie Deans-coached Panasonic Wild Knights, South Africa’s Blue Bulls and the Samoan national team.

Teams featuring the game’s biggest stars will compete in ten-a-side matches over 10-minute halves in pool play and then knockout matches.

Suncorp Stadium is an awesome place to play and watch rugby, and the tens is a format that will allow some really fast-paced, exciting rugby,” Dagg said. “I’m sure it’s going to be a two-day spectacle of rugby skills at their best.

“Hopefully we’ll get some Kiwi fans along to cheer us along and add to the atmosphere at Suncorp.  It would be a fantastic weekend away!”

Tickets, which go on sale to general public in New Zealand from Thursday, August 11, can be purchased from www.ticketek.com.au/BrisbaneTens

Hamish Riach, CEO of BNZ Crusaders, said the event was a great addition to the rugby calendar and the entire Crusaders organisation was looking forward to taking part.

“The timing works well with our Super Rugby pre-season and the format offers something new for fans too. I am sure that this will be a real festival of rugby and a fun event for both competitors and spectators.

“We’d love to see plenty of BNZ Crusaders flags flying at Suncorp Stadium in the Aussie summer, so hopefully our fans will get across the ditch and support the boys.”
