England Sevens have named an experienced squad for the final leg of the Rugby Europe Sevens Grand Prix at Sandy Park, Exeter this weekend (July 11-12).

Richard De Carpentier, Alex Gray, Charlie Hayter, Warwick Lahmert, Dan Norton and James Rodwell return to the side after the earlier rounds in Lyon and Moscow served to develop the young players recently joining the programme.

England are currently fourth in the series behind France, Spain and Russia.  The French are likely to defend their European title and, in doing so, achieve automatic qualification for the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro.

In front of their home crowd, and live on Sky Sports, England take on Italy (12.58pm) Lithuania (4.02pm) and Spain (6.44pm).

Head Coach Simon Amor said: “The squad are looking forward to finishing the season by playing in front of a home crowd and want to give it their best.  The senior players have not had any game time since the HSBC Sevens World Series finished in May so it is a good opportunity for them to test themselves against tough competition before having a few weeks off.

“One of the benefits of qualifying Team GB, by finishing top four on the World Series, was that it gave us the opportunity in the first two European tournaments to select some of our academy players.  I was incredibly pleased with how they performed.  They have developed enormously from the experience of the last six weeks and it is exciting that they will bring depth to the squad going forwards.

“A number of the young players will feature again this weekend but it will be a debut for Jack Wilson.  He is a powerful athlete who has the experience of playing in the Aviva Premiership with Saracens and has a strong sevens background.  He is soon to join up with New Zealand’s provincial side Otago, so this is a good opportunity to get him involved with the programme and see what he can offer.”
