England remain unbeaten at the World Rugby Under 20 Championship after sealing a 44-0 bonus-point victory over Scotland at the Manchester City Academy Stadium.

Having opened their campaign by beating Italy they secured a second-successive bonus-point win with a five-try victory.

Tries from Jack Walker, Will Evans, Johnny Williams, Jack Singleton and Max Malins meant Martin Haag’s side have a perfect record in Pool B.

England led 13-0 at the break with a try from captain Walker which Harry Mallinder converted along with two earlier penalties.

The second half then came to life with a try from Evans on his debut for England with Mallinder converting. Williams followed, securing England’s third converted try and a 27-0 lead.

Jack Singleton brought home England’s fourth converted try taking the score to 34-0. After kicking over a penalty Malins closed out the game with the fifth and final try taking the final score to 44-0.

Head Coach Martin Haag said “I’m happy with the overall performance, it was a full squad effort, scoring tries from different phases and great attacking rugby, particularly from broken play which is what we want to see,” he said.

“The scrum also performed well. We knew it was an area we could exploit and we did that in the first half.

“There are still things for us to improve on, we need to keep progressing daily. Some of the rugby from our own line today was fantastic considering the conditions, but the work now is to finish missed opportunities and find more of that ruthless streak.”

“Scoring four against Italy, five tries today and securing the bonus point is very pleasing,” he said.

“It was a good result, Scotland were a little under strength so you have to take that into consideration but we are building a looking ahead to Wednesday.

“We will now focus on Australia. We have to prepare properly as we know they are a dangerous team, they have some great runners and we will need another big performance on Wednesday.”
