The Springboks will have their own Faf to counter any challenges set by Faf du Plessis and the Proteas when the two teams meet in the Nelson Mandela Legacy Cup in Cape Town on Thursday, 8 December.

Faf de Klerk is one of a number of players who will get their first taste of international cricket in this highly-anticipated showdown at PPC Newlands – sponsored by Prepaid24.com, a strategic business partner of Blue Label Telecoms and an online retailer of its prepaid services.

While the Proteas will enter the T20 match confident after their recent good performances against Australia, they will walk onto the Newlands pitch knowing they have not beaten the Springboks in almost three years.

The first match of this kind took place at PPC Newlands on 3 January 2014, when the Proteas had to dig deep to beat the Boks by 14 runs. Du Plessis top-scored for the winning side with an unbeaten 77.

Eleven months later, on 5 December 2014, the Boks turned the tables when they beat the Proteas by five wickets at the Wanderers, thanks mainly to a fine knock of 62 runs by Victor Matfield and three wickets apiece by Damian De Allende and Willie le Roux.

Pat Lambie, captain the Springboks for this match, De Allende and De Klerk will be joined by Tiaan Liebenberg, one of the veterans who featured in both previous matches against the Proteas, Butch James, who is back in the side after playing in the inaugural encounter, and Jean de Villiers, who missed out on the second match because of injury.

The other new faces in the Bok team are Rohan Janse van Rensburg, Sergeal Petersen, Trevor Nyakane, experienced Blitzbok Stephan Dippenaar, as well as former Bok fullbacks Conrad Jantjes and Percy Montgomery, all of whom will make their Bok cricketing debuts.

The encounter is scheduled for PPC Newlands on 8 December, with the first ball set to be bowled at 18h00. Tickets are on sale from today through www.ticketpro.co.za or at the PPC Newlands ticket office and prices range from R120 to R180.

This is the third edition of this match that honours the country’s founding president and has the aim of raising substantial funds for the Nelson Mandela Foundation.

Fans are encouraged to make their donations to the Nelson Mandela Foundation via a dedicated SMS line on match day.

The match will be televised live on SuperSport as well as on their Facebook page. There will be various activities in the stadium on match day for fans to get involved and as well as the opportunity to meet some of their cricket and rugby heroes.
