Pierre Spies, Matt Gitau - Vodacom Bulls vs Brumbies (Loftus)

The Vodacom Bulls received a massive boost on the injury front when its medical team confirmed that Springbok No 8 Pierre Spies will be fit to face the Waratahs.

Spies, who injured his knee in the 50-32 win over the Brumbies at Loftus Versfeld, was the one big worry for the Bulls after a second good weekend in this year’s Vodacom Super 14.

The other one was Victor Matfield, who will know his fate later today after being cited for foul play during the game.

Spies will only train again in the captain’s run on Friday but, according to team doctor Org Strauss, will be fit to face the Waratahs.

“He actually injured a muscle behind the knee, which was good news, as we feared for some structural damage to the knee. We expect him to be fit.”

Further good news for the Bulls is that flanker Dewald Potgieter will be fit after a knee injury and is likely to get his first start of the season, while Danie Rossouw, who pulled out of last weekend’s game because of a neck spasm, will be fit to play as well.

“Danie Rossouw also trained with the team today. He will be on light duty during the week, but is expected to play,” he said. Rossouw pulled out of the Brumbies clash after a neck spasm.

Jaco Pretorius is still out due to a quad strain and will not be considered for selection.
