In 2007 Menlopark High School looked at it’s rugby with a renewed strategic focus. It put solid structures in place, and after 4 years it is bearing fruit

Menlopark (MP) is increasingly performing in the league of big- and macro schools. It’s rugby scores showed that in 2010 with some important scores as follows:
Pretoria Boys High (MP won 19-13)
HTS John Vorster (MP won 18-7)
Ben Vorster (MP won 6-3)
H/S Pietersburg (MP won 23-15)
H/S Klerksdorp (MP won 35-33) and
Eldoraigne (MP won 30-28)
Menlopark ended 2010 with a winning percentage of 85% of all games played. We had the distinction of reaching the quarter-finals of the BEELD trophy with all of our rugby teams (u/14, u/15, u/16 and our 1st team) and reaching the semi-finals with two of these teams. The only other school in the entire BEELD trophy that could boast this achievement was Waterkloof

This year (2011) started off great and after 13 games we again feel proud that we are on the road of achieving our strategic objectives – establishing ourselves as a team to be reckoned with on the SA school’s front, and entering the 20 top rated rugby schools in SA

Games played to date this 2011 season are as follows, with the stats shown on the score sheets attached hereto:
Driehoek (MP won 41-6)
Helpmekaar (MP won 23-5)
Brits (MP won 19-16)
Tygerberg (17-17)
Tygerberg was played on their home turf on our 1st team’s tour to the Cape during the April holidays
Strand (MP won 23-20)
Also played at H/S Strand during our Cape tour in April
HTS Drostdy (MP lost 15-18)
Played at Drostdy during our tour
Paarl Boys High (MP lost 43-17)
Played at Paarl Boys High during our tour
No excuses – we were outplayed. However this was our last game on tour, and the fourth tough game within a week. We had 3 key injuries at that stage, and the bodies were hammered
The tour was a privilege having had the wonderful opportunity to play strong Cape schools in beautiful rugby games. We had the opportunity to measure ourselves against the best (being top 20 and top 10 schools). We can compete at that level and will be moving our focus towards doing that as from next season
E G Jansen (MP lost 7-12)
Again no excuses, but we missed 3 penalty kicks at goal and the game was scheduled just after our return from our Cape tour. We will re-look the scheduling next season
HTS John Vorster (MP won 19-6)
St Charles (MP won 40-3)
Played during the Easter Festival at Krugersdorp High
St Davids (MP won 29-6)
Played during the Easter Festival at Krugersdorp High
St George’s (MP won 27-15)
Played during the Easter Festival at Krugersdorp High
Garsfontein (MP won 19-13)
St Albans (MP won 35-10)

In summary for 2011:
Games played: 14
Wins: 10
Losses: 3
Draw: 1
