Region’s Young Players Pull on ‘Canes Jersey

Players from the region’s Under 20 teams will get a taste of Super Rugby action when they join the Hurricanes Development side this weekend in their first game of the year.

Hurricanes CEO James Te Puni was delighted with the inclusion of so many players from across the regions.

“The Hurricanes franchise produces more talent than any other region which is credit to the provincial unions and Hurricanes youth development programme. To see these players alongside members of the Hurricanes squad on Saturday is fantastic for the development of those next Hurricanes players coming through.” said Te Puni.

There are seven under 20 players from across the regions represented – Tamati Samuels, Penikolo Latu from Hawke’s Bay, Mitch Brown from Taranaki, Nick Grogan, Tom Hughes, Jade Te Rure from Manawatu and Donald Brighouse from Wellington.

The Hurricanes Development team will face the Crusader Knights as a warm up ahead of the upcoming Pacific Rugby Cup starting later this month. The match will be played at Porirua Park with free entry for fans to watch.

Kick off this Saturday 9th march is at 1.30pm.
