Italian international prop Pietro Ceccarelli has become the latest player to re-sign with the club after today putting pen to paper on a new one-year deal.

Ceccarelli – who has been capped 11 times by the Azzurri – joined Edinburgh from French Top 14 side Oyonnax last summer and has since made 10 appearances in the capital side’s front-row.

On extending his stay at the club for a further season, Ceccarelli, said: “I’m really happy to have signed with Edinburgh for a further year.

“There’s a brilliant environment at the club and it’s the perfect place to continue my development as a rugby player.

“We’re working extremely hard as a group and I’ll continue to give my all to this club as we look ahead to the new season.”

Head Coach Richard Cockerill, added: “Pietro has made a big impact since joining the club last year and we’ve been impressed with how quickly he’s adapted to our style of play.

“He’s physical at the point of contact and works tirelessly in training every day. We’re delighted that he’s committed to the club for another year.”

Ceccarelli, 27, started his career with Rome-based Lazio Rugby Club before securing a move to French side La Rochelle in 2012.

Following a brief spell with Federal 2 team AS Macon, the prop returned to his native Italy to sign for Guinness PRO14 outfit Zebre in 2015.

In two seasons at the Stadio Sergio Lanfranchi, Ceccarelli made 46 appearances before moving to Oyonnax at the start of the 2017/18 campaign.

The prop made his Italian Test debut against Ireland in the 2016 Six Nations and featured against Scotland during the Azzuri’s 34-15 Summer Test defeat in Singapore in June 2017.

The Italian tighthead made his Edinburgh debut against former club Zebre in October 2018 and has since been a consistent performer in the capital side’s front-row.
