South Africa’s most experienced Test referee Jonathan Kaplan has been appointed to officiate the Absa Currie Cup final between DHL Western Province and The Sharks in Cape Town on Saturday in a fitting end to a highly successful professional refereeing career.

Kaplan, who handled his first Test match in 1996 and became the first referee to officiate 50 Tests, will be assisted by Christie du Preez and Stefan Breytenbach, while Deon van Blommestein has been appointed as the Television Match Official.

Saturday’s match will mark Kaplan’s sixth Absa Currie Cup final.

Rasta Rasivhenge will take charge of the Absa Under-21 Provincial Championship final between DHL Western Province and the Vodacom Blue Bulls, while Rodney Boneparte will handle the Absa Under-19 final between the Vodacom Blue Bulls and MTN Golden Lions.

The second Absa Currie Cup promotion-relegation clash between the Steval Pumas and GWK Griquas in Nelspruit on Friday, meanwhile, will be handled by the experienced Craig Joubert.
