GAME 2
GLENWOOD 31 – HOERSKOOL FRAMESBY 29

Glenwood have had a fantastic festival, notching up two excellent wins – over Dale on Thursday and over EG Jansen on Saturday. Framesby, whilst performing better than in last year’s festival, have lost both of their matches – to Monument on Thursday and to Selborne College on Saturday.

Framesby began playing well with renewed energy and focus and impressed with a fine running attack for the first six minutes of the game and their efforts were rewarded when Rikus Zaayman crossed the line to record the first try of the match. Score: 5-0 to Framesby. Four minutes later Framesby momentum pushed Roche van Zyl over the line in impressive style, converted by Tiaan Stander, to take the score to 12-0.

In the 18th minute, again after consistent pressure and successful retention, Framesby no 10 Tiaan Stander went over to bring the scores to 17-0. The picture looked bleak for Glenwood until no 15 Morne Joubert managed to convert the second of two penalties to put Glenwood on the board in the 24th minute. Score: 17-3. And that opened the door for some very impressive running, culminating in a runaway try by Glenwood no 13 Sphandla Ngcobo, converted by Morne Joubert, to bring the scores to 17-10 at half time.

The second half began with Glenwood exerting relentless pressure on the Framesby pack. Framesby kept their cool and pushed Glenwood back into their 22. But it was Glenwood full back Morne Joubert who got the break and shot down the field for a 60m run to score between the posts. He converted, bringing the score to 17-17 in the 42nd minute of the game.

Two minutes later, Framesby proved they were still in the game when number 9 SF Nieuwoudt went over the line in loose play to make the scores 22-17. Framesby maintained the pressure, winning through again in the 51st minute when Mfundo Ndawo crossed the line and Tiaan Stander converted to push the scores to 29-17.

But Glenwood were not giving up and resurged as number 22 Jayden Morgan raced down the field in yet another runaway try from Glenwood. Morne Joubert converted to bring the scores to 29-24 setting up a very exciting final six minutes. And that is where the Green Machine proved its worth. Prop Kenny van Niekerk pushed over the line to level the scores and Morne Joubert converted to hand the game to Glenwood 31-29.
