KRU Training and Education Coordinator Johnbosco Muamba said, “ These courses targeted coaches and teachers around Chuka region and were part of the ongoing program through which KRU is partnering with clubs to grow the game in the regions through Training and Education.
He further acknowledged the support offered by the Tharaka Niithi Country Government, saying “ Rugby enjoys a lot of support in the county and we do hail the efforts of the  County Minister of  Sports, Mr Benjamin Njoka, himself a former Rugby Coach at Chuka Boys and Kangaru School for his role in ensuring this course took off.”

Muamba further commented about the course in Nanyuki held in September, saying, “The courses were a legacy program for the inaugural Nanyuki Sevens. Some of the trainees had an opportunity to referee age-grade matches during the tournament.”

“The training at Kenyatta University demonstrated the potential of learning institutions as a rich ground to build expertise and grow the number of trained officials across both gender. KRU will target more of such institutions for training and education in future,” he concluded.

In other news, the Kenya Rugby Union has moved to establish a database of women’s rugby teams and players in the country.  KRU Age Grade and Women’s Coordinator, Nicholas Aballa told Kenya Rugby , “ This is intended to give us a clear direction in terms of the numbers of women actually playing the game, as well as existing rugby teams as we aim to draw up more concrete programs to further enhance the growth and development of women’s rugby in Kenya.”
