Hurricanes second five eighth Ma’a Nonu will appear at a judicial hearing on Monday after he was sent off during his team’s Super Rugby season opener against the Highlanders at Wellington’s Westpac Stadium last night.

The Highlanders won the match 14 – 9.

Nonu was yellow carded under law 10.3(b), 29 minutes into the first half for an alleged professional foul.  Ten minutes into the second half Nonu received another yellow card under law 10.4(e) for an alleged dangerous charge on Highlanders halfback Jimmy Cowan.  This second yellow card resulted in a red card and subsequent sending off.

SANZAR Citing Commissioner Mike O’Leary also cited Nonu for the alleged dangerous charge.

The red card and citing requires Nonu to appear at a judicial hearing which will be held at the New Zealand Rugby Union offices, in Wellington, on Monday 21 February.  The time of the hearing is yet to be confirmed.  The case will be heard by Judicial Officer Nigel Hampton QC.
