Isuzu Southern Kings front rower, Martin Dreyer, remains the only injury concern following the side’s 38-28 victory over Glasgow Warriors over the weekend.

The 20-year-old prop sustained a knee injury in the 75th minute of Saturday’s Round 4 Guinness PRO14 encounter at the Nelson Mandela University’s Madibaz Stadium.

“We only have one injury concern from the weekend’s Guinness PRO14 match, and that is our prop Martin Dreyer, who injured his knee,” team doctor, Gershwin Kortje, confirmed on Monday.

“We cannot confirm the extend of the injury as yet as Martin will be seeing a specialist tomorrow (Tuesday) who will be able to give us a full diagnosis of the injury. The player has been receiving good medical care ahead of his visit to the specialist.”

While there had also been some concerns at the end of the final whistle on Saturday after lock JC Astle and prop Justin Forwood limped off the field, Dr Kortje confirmed that the pair, and others who had received some knocks and bruises, had recovered well.

“JC Astle is doing very well and has made a full recovery from his knock over the weekend. Justin Forwood, who had sustained an ankle strain, was also managed well by our medical team and has made a full recovery. There were a few knocks and bruises after the hard-fought win on Saturday, but those have been managed well and all the other players who played last weekend are available for selection for the touring squad,” said the team doctor.

The Isuzu Southern Kings touring squad will depart from South African shores tomorrow, with their first stop being Wales where they will take on Scarlets in Llanelli on Saturday. The side will then travel to Treviso where they will take on Italian side, Benetton next week.
