ABSA Currie Cup LogoThe Eastern Province Kings were found not guilty of breaching player eligibility rules at a South African Rugby Union (SARU) disciplinary hearing in Cape Town on Tuesday.

SARU received a complaint from the Boland Rugby Union that the EP Kings had breached regulation 16.3 of the competition rules by fielding Rudi Keil in their match 22 in Saturday’s Absa Currie Cup First Division semi-final in Port Elizabeth without having played the required three matches prior to the semi-final. The EP Kings won the match 26-25.

At the hearing documents were tabled to prove that Keil and the union complied with the applicable regulations regarding player eligibility and had been registered with the province since 1 June 2010.

As a result the charged was dismissed.
