Men change three for Vegas

Qantas Australian Men’s Sevens coach Andy Friend has welcomed back 74 caps of experience with Ed Jenkins, Nick Malouf and Tom Lucas all named to make their return from injury for the Las Vegas leg of the Sevens World Series next weekend (March 4-6).

Jenkins will play for the first time in 2017, after injuring his shoulder in Cape Town late last year while Nick Malouf and Tom Lucas will also make their much-anticipated comebacks, with the former having endured an extended lay-off following the Rio Olympic Games.

The squad also includes young guns Tate McDermott, Tim Anstee, Brandon Quinn and Lachie Anderson after they impressed on home soil at the HSBC Sydney 7s earlier this month.

Tim Anstee, who scored a hat-trick of tries against Wales in the Quarter Finals in Sydney, has four caps, while Tate McDermott will be competing in just his third World Series event.

Jenkins, Malouf and Lucas the three changes from the team that made the Semi Finals in Sydney with Charlie Taylor, Simon Kennewell and Michael Adams making way.

Qantas Australian Men’s Sevens Head Coach Andy Friend said: “Our top four finish at the HSBC Sydney 7s gave our young guys a boost of confidence and they have worked hard since to continue their improvement.

“Welcoming Ed, Nick and Tom back into the side will add some extra experience to the squad and will give our young guys a great opportunity to continue to learn from those experienced players.

“Our younger players are continuing to learn the game of Sevens and conditioning themselves for the rigours of the World Series and we expect to see continued improvement from the team.”

Australia has been drawn in Pool D and will face Fiji, Japan and Scotland. The campaign kicks off against Scotland at 11.31am AEDT Saturday 4 March. All games will be broadcast LIVE on FOX SPORTS (check local guides).
