Queensland U20s head coach Brad Thorn has named his side for their Round 4 Super U20s Championship clash against NSW Gen Blue, which will form part of Round 1 of Queensland Premier Rugby this Saturday, 18 March.

The match will be played at Wests’ new Scifleet Stadium, kicking off at 1:50 pm and the U20s clash will take place prior to the western suburbs derby between the Bulldogs and the University of Queensland at 5:15 pm.

Coming off a Round 3 bye, only two changes have been made to the starting line-up from the Queensland side’s Round 2 win over the Western Force U20s in Perth.

St.George Queensland Reds loose forward Reece Hewart is set to play his first game of Rugby since captaining the Australian Schoolboys in late 2015, having been named to start at Number 8. Bond University lock Angus Blyth has also been recalled to the starting line-up.

The backline remains unchanged for the third straight match, while on the bench the Easts duo of Brayden Shiller and Eli Pilz as well as Sunnybank’s Isaac Lucas, younger brother of former Queensland Reds utility Ben, and Sunshine Coast product Sean Farrell, are in-line for their potential Queensland U20s debuts.

Assistant coach and former Wests, Queensland and Wallabies winger Paul Carozza is looking forward to returning with the team to his old club.

“We have made a few changes to our reserves bench this week, but we have felt we have good depth in the squad and it’s beneficial to try different players in the reserves,” Carozza said.

“We’re trying to adhere to our philosophy of rewarding good performance and those who have been brought into the squad have been performing well for their clubs throughout the Premier Rugby trial matches. They’ve all been members of our wider squad and we value their ongoing contributions.

“The whole team is excited to be part of the launch of Wests’ new facility this weekend. It’s a quality venue and the game is a chance for us to once again show our support of club Rugby.”

The Queensland U20s v NSW Gen Blue match will be live streamed via www.redsrugby.com.au, kick-off at 1:50 pm AEST.
