9 NOVEMBER 2015 – The 2015 Vodacom Wheelchair Basketball Challenge will again see a star-studded team of celebrities take on the professional Wheelchair Basketball players in an Exhibition Game ahead of the grand finale at Vodacom World in Midrand on Saturday 14 November.

Vodacom Bulls players will show their support on the day with four players who will get to experience the rough and tumble sport first-hand.

Springbok players Trevor Nyakane and Adriaan Strauss will also attend the wheelchair basketball festivities and join the action in a wheelchair.

SuperSport pundit Xola Ntshinga and Bafana Bafana legend Marks Maponyane will also have an opportunity to show off their skills on the court.

Spectators will be entertained by Vodacom Bulls mascot Bulletjie and the Vodacom Bulls Babes ahead of the action-packed day of basketball.

A new Vodacom Wheelchair Basketball Challenge champion will be crowned when  North West, Gauteng, Eastern Cape and Kwa-Zulu Natal take each other on for the bragging rights and R100 000 prize money.

The four teams will battle it out on Friday to make it into Saturday’s final with the two losing teams playing in the curtain-raiser for the bronze medal.

Some of the country’s top wheelchair basketball talent will show off their skills with the likes of Amawheelaboys legend Richard Nortje featuring for the Gauteng team.

Wheelchair basketball is not for the faint at heart, as the players play with reckless abandon and the ball is shifted from goal to goal within seconds.

Although the players are in wheelchairs, the rules do not change much from the conventional game.

The sport is played on the same size court and basket height and players display some fantastic skill when taking shots.

A team has 24 seconds from taking possession of the ball to complete its attempt on the basket and players are required to throw or dribble the ball after two pushes of the wheel.

Friday’s matches will start from 14:45 at Vodacom World with the celebrity Exhibition Game taking place at 14:00 ahead of the main match.

Vodacom is proud to be a sponsor of wheelchair basketball for the past 15 years.
