SA Select Women target strong tour finish

Loading...SA Select Women’s coach Eddie Myners said his team was determined to finish their England tour on a strong note on Sunday when they line up against the England Academy team for the second time in Aldershot.
The SA Select Women started their first 15-a-side international tour since 2014 on a positive note as they registered a morale-boosting 27-5 victory against the British Army, while they suffered a disappointing 47-12 defeat in their second match against the England Academy.
With the side having entered the break tied at 12-12 against the England Academy on Wednesday, however, Myners said his charges were determined to make their presence felt in their closing match.
“We have a few niggling injuries in the group, but nevertheless, the spirit in the camp is good and the players are very focused and determined to end the tour on a high note,” said the coach. “We also know what to expect from England Academy, so while we are under no illusions about the challenge ahead, they players are calm and committed going into the clash.”
Myners was pleased with the team’s preparation, and said they worked hard on improving on the areas of their game that let them down in the last encounter.
“Our preparation in the last few days has been good,” Myners said. “Some of the areas we focused on since Wednesday included our defence from the set pieces and our maul defence, as they scored four tries from rolling mauls in our last match.
“We also spoke about our discipline as a group after having to play for 14 players at times in the last two games.
“That said the team looks good and they are determined to deliver a solid performance on Sunday.”
Myners made six personnel changes and two positional switches to his starting XV, with a new front row of props Ncediswa Mahinjani and Katlego Moremi and hooker Thandi Xwetu, No 8 Kamohelo Makoele, centre Apiwe Ngwevu and winger Megan Goda earning starts.
These changes saw Zinhle Ndawonde and Unathi Mali switch to outside centre and fullback respectively. Myners named 12 players on his replacements bench.
