SANZAR Nations stand as one behind Christchurch and New Zealand

SANZAR today announced that the South African, Australian and New Zealand Super Rugby teams would stand as one in round two to show their support for the victims of this week’s earthquake in Christchurch.
SANZAR CEO, Greg Peters said it was hard to comprehend the destruction that the earthquake has caused to Christchurch and the surrounding area.
“Last week the SANZAR community came together to help those in Queensland and South Africa who had been affected by severe flooding and natural disasters, this weekend we will come together to show our support for Christchurch and New Zealand,” Mr Peters said.
“As a mark of respect to those who lost their lives as a result of the earthquake all games will observe a minutes silence before kick-off and players will wear black and red arm-bands to acknowledge those affected in Christchurch.
“Flags at all of the stadiums hosting Super Rugby games this weekend will be flown at half-mast while broadcast partners across the three countries will also show their support during games by promoting the Red Cross website where people can donate to the appeal.”
During the first game of the round on Friday evening between the Highlanders and Chiefs, at Carisbrook in Dunedin, the Salvation Army will hold a food collection before the game and the Red Cross will also take up a collection.
This SANZAR-wide show of support follows the Crusaders decision not to play their scheduled Super Rugby match against the Hurricanes on Saturday night. The game has been called a draw with both teams sharing two points.
