Lance Sendin and Sean Erasmus, first team coaches of Hugenote in Wellington and Paarl Boys High respectively, have been appointed as head coaches of the two SA Schools teams for the Under-19 International Series in Cape Town and Paarl from 12 to 20 August, SA Rugby announced on Friday.

Sendin, who was the head coach of the SA Schools A team last season, takes over the head coaching duties of the SA Schools team from Hein Kriek, who is now an assistant coach of the Steval Pumas. Erasmus, meanwhile, takes over the head coaching duties of the SA Schools A team after serving as Kriek’s assistant coach last year.

Sendin and Erasmus will be assisted by Boland U18 Coca-Cola Craven Week assistant coach John Booysen and Bidvest Golden Lions U18 Craven Week assistant coach Mzwakhe Nkosi, as well as specialist coaches of the SA Rugby Mobi-Unit.

Dr Gerhard Coetzer will oversee the medical needs of both teams. Dean Moodley retains his position as the SA Schools Team Manager, with Karabo Morokane appointed the team physiotherapist and Thulani Ntetha the fitness coach. Relton Hermanus, meanwhile, resumes his duties as the SA Schools A Team Manager, with Kim Naidoo the physiotherapist and Junior Springbok fitness coach, Andre Smith, the training coach.

The Under-19 International Series, will feature the SA Schools and SA Schools A teams, England, Wales, France and Italy, with the teams set to battle it out in three rounds of matches.

Salmaan Moerat, captain of the DHL Western Province U18 Coca-Cola Craven Week side, will lead the SA Schools team, while Enrista Blue Bulls centre Louritz Van der Schyff has been selected to lead the SA Schools A team. Each of the squads consist of 26 players and are sponsored by Coca-Cola.

The first round of matches in the U19 International Series will be hosted at City Park in Crawford, Cape Town, on Friday 12 August. Then follows the second round of matches, at the fields of the Diocesan College (Bishops) in Rondebosch, on Tuesday 16 August, while the final round of action will take place at the fields of Paarl Boys’ High on Saturday, 20 August.

The two SA Schools squads will assemble at Newlands in Cape Town on Sunday, 7 August and will begin their on-field preparations for the tournament the following day.
