Jean Deysel Sharks v Lions

Less than a week before the Currie Cup kicks off and the two favorites are looking rather average if anything can be read into the results of compulsory warm-up matches.

Western Province could only manage a 29-5 victory over the Griffons in Welkom, while the Blue Bulls struggled to convincingly beat Eastern Province in the final match ever played at the Boet Erasmus Stadium in Port Elizabeth. The Eastern Province rugby union will move over to the Nelson Mandela Bay Stadium as soon as the Soccer World Cup is over.

The Sharks, Cheetahs and Griquas all scored runaway victories over their respective opponents while the Lions are back to winning ways ahead of the Currie Cup.

Results of all compulsory warm-up matches:

Valke 3 – 80 Sharks

Griffons 5 – 29 Western Province

SWD 12 – 50 Griquas

Border Bulldogs 7 – 43 FS Cheetahs

Boland 29 – 49 Lions

Eastern Province 11 – 24 Blue Bulls
