Head of England Sevens Simon Amor has made one change to his 12-man squad for the HSBC Paris Sevens on 8-10 June, live on Sky Sports.

A hamstring injury to Alex Davis sees Tom Bowen return to the England side after he played the role of 13th man in London, and Will Edwards has joined up with the squad as the travelling reserve for this final World Series stop.

England set a number of new records at their home leg at Twickenham Stadium last weekend in what was Tom Mitchell’s 50th tournament on the World Series. England’s most capped player James Rodwell reached a landmark 400 games in his sevens career against Kenya in the pool stages and the squad hit an impressive 3,000 tries on the HSBC World Rugby Sevens Series when Mike Ellery scored against Australia in the Cup quarter-final.

In Paris this weekend England will face France, Argentina and USA in the pool stages on Saturday 9 June.

Played at the Stade Jean-Bouin, the HSBC Paris Sevens takes place over three days with the women’s tournament beginning on Friday 8 June. Paris is the final leg of the HSBC World Rugby Sevens Series which sees 16 teams compete across ten tournaments from December to June.

Head of England Sevens, Simon Amor said: “All the players are excited to be in Paris this weekend for the last tournament of the World Series. The team was disappointed to miss out on the podium at Twickenham last weekend and although we showed some great examples of attack, defence and set piece throughout the tournament, our inconsistency cost us.

“Alex Davis misses out with a slight hamstring strain but it is great to get Tom Bowen fully back into the squad after returning from injury and it also gives us the opportunity to expose Ryan Olowofela and Harry Glover to more World Series tournament time. Two exciting players who are developing well in the England Sevens programme.

“Our focus is very much on our first game which is a real tough one against France in France – it should be a fantastic atmosphere and we are really looking forward to the challenge.”
