Keeping in mind the coaching staff of the Steval Pumas made 20 changes to this week’s team, they still scored eight tries in only 67 minutes in a shortened version of the game yesterday in the Secunda Stadium. Their third match in the 2015 Vodacom Cup series was called off only 17 minutes into the second hold due to bad weather and heavy lightning.

The Lowvelders managed to score their first try in the first minute of the game by a great forward drive. Marnus Schoeman opened the series of five pointers with JC Roos, who played in his 50th game for the Pumas, adding the additional points. He also kicked for cash and was successful with six of the eight conversions. But, Vodacom decided to donate R15 000 to the Mpumalanga Mental Health Society in Secunda.

At the break the Steval Pumas had a point per minute rate (40-0) and continued their form in the second half. According to the coach, MJ Mentz, he was happy with the way the team managed to put the Limpopo Blue Bulls under pressure from the word go. The team’s total domination in all facets of the match was quite impressive and the Limpopo Blue Bulls had no answer to the brutal attack on them.

Players who impressed on the day: Francois du Toit, Rudi Mathee, Marnus Schoeman, JC Roos, Dewald Pretorius and Hennie Skorbinski. Skorbinski left the field half way through the first half due to a badly broken nose.

Tries were scored by: Marnus Schoeman (2), Ruwellyn Isbell (2), Hennie Skorbinski, Francois du Toit, Lambert Groenewald and Sinovuyo Nyoka.

Next weekend the Steval Pumas will travel to Pretoria to play the Vodacom Blue Bulls. They are currently topping the points log with 15 points, followed by the Xerox Golden Lions on 14 and the Blue Bulls in third position.
