The first SuperSport Rugby Challenge will conclude at Florida Park in Ravensmead, Cape Town on Sunday with undefeated DHL Western Province hosting Tafel Lager Griquas in the final of a pulsating new addition to the South African rugby calendar.

The new competition added numerous firsts to the rugby landscape, including Rugby Festivals on Sundays and taking the game to communities all over the country and on Sunday will also deliver a first champion amongst the 14 provincial unions and Namibia’s Welwitschias.

The DHL Western Province team has impressed from the opening whistle and has won 10 on the trot and will find a very enthusiastic home crowd spurring them on. They will find a highly competitive opponent in Tafel Lager Griquas, who has showed tremendous form in the final stretch of the competition, scoring 11 tries in the quarterfinals against EP Kings and knocking over the highly-fancied Xerox Golden Lions XV in the semifinals last weekend in Mdantsane.

As now has become the norm, a highly anticipated local derby will be played as a curtain-raiser. Local club Tygerberg faces traditional rivals Belhar in what promises to be an all-action affair. With the home side strongly placed in the tightly contested Western Province Super League A race to Gold Cup qualification, they have more to play for than just traditional bragging rights, while the visitors have the potential and ability to silence the crowd.

Entertainer AKA and The Voice winner, Craig Lucas, should have the crowd in raptures if the home side fails to deliver. It will be a first local appearance for Lucas, who hails from the neighbouring suburb of Elsies River, after he was named winner of the popular M-Net show last weekend.

Entrance free and tickets available at the gate. There is limited space available, so spectators are encouraged to get there early to secure their place for the action. Parking is free of charge and will be at the opposite end of the pitch to the grandstand.

The teams are:
