Brumbies No 8 Ita Vaea has been suspended for one week for his dangerous tackle on Reds winger Digby Ioane in their clash at the Suncorp Stadium on Saturday night.

Vaea was not penalised for a high tackle in the second half which left Ioane unconscious and saw him stretchered off the field. Vaea was however cited post match for the tackle and SANZAR judicial officer Paul Tully found him guilty of a dangerous tackle and suspended him from one week of rugby. This will see him miss next weekend’s clash at home against the Melbourne Rebels.

Ioane was rushed to hospital after he plunged to earth from the hit on the chin. Scans revealed a severe concussion but fortunately no facial fractures or extra damage. Ioane will most likely miss the next two weeks of rugby and will be ready for his team’s play-off matches.
