Global sports brand PUMA today unveils the Avant Pro II
Global sports brand PUMA today unveils the Avant Pro II, the latest evolution of its technical rugby boot developed for tight five players.
Built for the Bind, these scrum boots can be spotted on the feet of physically dominating tight-5 players including Bongi Mbonambi, Gerhard Steenekamp, Ruan Nortje, Franco Mostert, Lood De Jager, Johan Grobbelaar, Trevor Nyakane, Marnus van der Merwe, Vincent Koch, JF van Heerden, Sanelisiwe Charlie, Jaco Grobbelaar, and Ruben van Heerden.
The Avant Pro II has improved heel lockdown, durability and fit thanks to material and design modifications across the boot. Key features:
- The boot’s forefoot armour consists of a padded structural cage created by moulded synthetic leather that fuses with the lining for enhanced comfort and protection.
- The toe box volume has increased.
- The improved heel lockdown is thanks to a substantial heel construction with a fully moulded heel piece connected to the lacing to create a fastening system. The heel is softer with more cushioning and Armo Yarns technology is used for a durable ankle fit.
- An 11-stud outsole with 8 metal studs for traction when scrumming, and 3 TPU studs to release pressure.
“With the Avant Pro II, the improvements were developed during a year of testing with our PUMA sponsored players. Their feedback was integral to engineering the advancements in the boot,” said Brett Bellinger, Marketing Director for PUMA SA.

The Avant Pro II (R3999) will be available from 19 January 2026 at PUMA.com, PUMA retail stores, Totalsports and Sportsmans Warehouse.
