SARU today announced the name of the new Springbok coach.

Oregan Hoskins, President of SARU did the announcement at Supersport’s studios in Randburg.

Allister Coetzee will coach the Boks for the next four years. He will be assited by Mzwandile Stick and Johann van Graan as backline and forwards coaches.

Coetzee’s name was withheld in order to give SARU the opportunity to complete the contractual terms of the coach, said Hoskins.

Coetzee said that he never pusued the position, “if it had to come, it will land now I am here.

“I am thankful for the confidence of SARU that was set in my appointment.

“I am ready for the Irish that will soon be on our shores. My assistants will have to buy into the winning game and I will give assistance wherever it is needed.

Coetzee referred to the Bok’s brand of physical rugby that they play, “but we will play with more ball-in-hand and more clever, it’s already happening on SupeRugby-level.

“Mzwandile Stick played well as a Sevens player and he did well with the under 19’s.

“I will also talk to my predecessor (Heyneke Meyer) and share the ideas that he brought into rugby…he did a lot to bring in youngsters like Wille le Roux.

“The mobi-unit of Rassie Erasmus has done good work and I will use their expertise in preparation of the international season.”

He said that he will visit players locally and internationally when looking at appointing a captain.

“It will have to be someone that can unite the players and fit into the profile, as South Africans we are over-emphasising the importance of the captain, he must help to win Tests.

He referred to transformation as “not an issue” and mentioned that it must broaden diversity.

“I have learned that from my time at the Stormers and it worked for me there, it will work here. I ask that we will be supported in this important venture.

Coetzee and his team will spend the following days with intensive planning.
