Chiefs midfielder Anton Lienert-Brown has been called into the New Zealand squad competing at the World Rugby Under 20 Championship in Italy, replacing Mitchell Karpik who sustained an ankle injury in the weekend’s match against Argentina.
New Zealand head coach Scott Robertson said “Mitch has made a huge contribution to the team during the tournament so far, playing in both of our games. We’re very disappointed to have lost him to injury.”
“However, it will be good to see Anton return to the squad. He will be a great addition to the team having played a key leadership role in the successful Oceania series last month.”
Anton Lienert-Brown was recalled to Chiefs duty after the Oceania Junior Championships to cover the midfield for the Super Rugby franchise. He will be leaving for Italy later today.
New Zealand will play Ireland this Wednesday 10 June at 8.30pm local time (Thursday 11 June, 6.30am NZT) at Stadio Luigi Zaffanella, Viadana.
New Zealand v Ireland will be broadcast live on SKY Sport 1 from 6.23am NZT, Thursday 11 June. The match will be replayed on SKY Sport 2 at 10am NZT, with a delayed broadcast on the Rugby Channel at 12.30pm NZT.
