On Friday 28 August 2014 Port Natal Skool hosted the inaugural Audi 7 a side rugby tournament for U/16 boys. Participating schools were hosts Port Natal Skool, Durban High School (DHS), Kloof High School (both DHS and Kloof entered 2 teams), George Campbell and Durban Development. The development team had 7 players from Kenya that were on tour in South Africa.
The weather played a big role as strong winds blew throughout the day, but this did not damper the spirits of the players and they made sure that the spectators were treated to some spectacular schoolboy rugby.
Some unexpected upsets on the field added to the excitement of the day and the teams from DHS and host school Port Natal Skool had to battle for top spot, At the end of the tournament all three teams (Port Natal Skool, DHS 1 and DHS 2) ended on 25 points. After a try count out, DHS 2 ended up in 1st place scoring 38 tries, Port Natal Skool 2nd with 35 tries and DHS 1 ending 3rd with 33 tries.
A big thank you to the name sponsor Audi for their support as well as the other sponsors that supported the tournament. Final team placing as follows:
1. DHS 2
2. Port Natal Skool
3. DHS 1
4. George Campbell
5. Kloof 1
6. Kloof 2
7. Development
Congratulations to all participating teams. We look forward to an even better Audi 7’s Rugby tournament in 2015.
