St.George Queensland Reds fullback Ayumu Goromaru will undergo surgery next week after suffering an AC joint separation in his side’s win over the Sunwolves yesterday.
He is expected to be sidelined for 12 weeks, ruling him out of the Reds’ final three games of Super Rugby.

The injury occurred in the 57th minute of the game as Goromaru attempted to prevent a try by Sunwolves flanker Liaki Moli.

The Japanese international was hopeful the injury was not too serious and even spent a lengthy period of time post match signing autographs and meeting fans, but scans later that night revealed the extent of the damage.

Goromaru said: “I’m disappointed I can’t play out the rest of the season with my Reds teammates and I’m obviously disappointed to be missing out on the June Test series with Japan.

“I’ve had a fantastic time in Australia and now I just want to work hard on my recovery. I’m looking forward to what challenges are ahead.”
