After a convincing 79-5 win over Kazakhstan to open the 2014 tournament last Friday night (NZT), the Black Ferns, chasing their fifth straight World Cup, will play 2013 Women’s Six Nations champions Ireland in their second match.

Evans said that despite a good first up win, the Irish would be a step up.

“It is an exciting challenge for the team and we are aware that they are a big and powerful team,” he said.

“They are well organised and were in their match against the United States.

“Fortunately we have no injuries and have had a day of rest after a match played in very hot conditions.

“The team played well but they struggled with the heat so we have prepared accordingly.”

There are seven changes to the starting team, with Jackie Patea, Kathleen Wilton and Renee Wickliffe promoted to the run-on side to get their first taste of action at the tournament.

Aleisha Nelson, Linda Itunu and Honey Hireme will start after playing off the bench against Kazakhstan.

Aroha Savage is the only remaining player from the opening match in the reserves, with Stephanie Te Ohaere-Fox, Ruth McKay, Justine Lavea, Kendra Cocksedge and Shakira Baker to take on replacement duties.

Claire Richardson will potentially make her 2014 tournament debut off the bench, replacing Victoria Subritzky-Nafatali.

Kick-off for the match starts from 4:00am Wednesday morning (NZT) with coverage on SKY Sport from 3.50am and replayed the same day at 6am on the Rugby Channel.
