PDVSpringbok coach Peter de Villiers encouraged the 50 players attending SARU’s National Under-16 High Performance Camp in Cape Town this week to believe in their rugby abilities and talents in their quest to become future professional rugby players.

The Bok coach attended their training camp at the SACS High School in Newlands and interacted with the 50 players who were selected for the week-long camp following their performances at the 2010 Coca-Cola Under-16 Grant Khomo Week.

“It’s great that SARU is investing in our under-16s and I salute everyone who has been involved in putting these structures and projects together,” said De Villiers.

“I am also encouraged that these players will be coached and will gain knowledge from guys who have represented our country at the highest level.

“You guys are all under-16, but at the age of 16 I had ambitions of becoming a Springbok. Later on those ambitions changed and I wanted to coach the Springboks. If players believe and have faith in their natural ability and God-given talent, then they should aim high, which is to one day represent their country at international level.”

The 50 players will be involved in positional specific training under the guidance of former Springbok players. These players include former Bok captain Bobby Skinstad, Owen Nkumane, Ashwin Willemse, Quinton Davids, Werner Swanepoel and Hennie Bekker.

National selector Peter Jooste, Springbok rugby laws advisor Neville Heilbron, as well as High Performance Manager Herman Masimla will also spend the week at camp.

Springbok players Gio Aplon and Juan de Jongh will address the players at SACS High Schools on Tuesday evening.
