Boland Cavaliers team to face Golden Lions – 24 August 2016

Loading...BOLAND CAVALIERS head coach Brent Janse van Rensburg has made a number of changes to his team to face the Golden Lions in a Currie Cup Premier Division match at Emirates Airline Park on Friday.
Of the match 22 that faced the Sharks in Wellington last Friday, Zandré Jordaan, Jacques Engelbrecht (both loose forwards), Nico Scheepers (fullback) and Jovelian de Koker (replacement scrum-half) have all been sidelined with injuries, while other regulars in the squad, namely Chadley Wenn (hooker), Chaney Willemse (flank), William van Wyk (fly-half) and Ferdi Horn (Lock/Flank) were also not considered due to injury.
A notable change to the team sees the return of Namibian International Theuns Kotze in the number 10 jersey. Kotze will get his first start for Boland in the Premier Division this season since returning from International duties.
Wayne Wilschut replaces Jordaan at eighth-man, with Joubert Horn getting his first start at lock.
According to Janse van Rensburg the Lions will have a point to prove after losing to Griquas this past weekend.
“The Lions are a very good team and are well coached. They will most certainly put together a big fight back after losing to the Griquas and I anticipate they will want to try play us off our feet with tempo & intensity coming out the blocks to set the tone for the game.
“They challenge defences with their ball in hand approach. We will need to be better defensively this week and it is imperative that we match their intensity if we are to contain their attack.
“We currently have a number of injuries in our squad and this week will provide other players with an opportunity to fill the shoes of the injured players and take their opportunity. Work rate and a selfless effort from all players to play as a team is very important for us”
