Border and KwaZulu-Natal on Saturday proved again that they have the potential to be finalists in the Women’s Interprovincial Series as they powered their way to another round of convincing victories to maintain their unbeaten status in the ‘A Division’.

In the ‘B Division’ the Valke held their nerve to register their second victory in as many matches, while Griquas suffered their first defeat of the season.

In an exciting third round, KwaZulu-Natal thumped Boland 36-0 in Worcester, Border cruised to a 36-5 victory against SWD in East London and the Griffons handed the Golden Lions their second defeat of the season as they worked their way to a 21-13 win in Welkom.

In the other ‘A Division’ match, Western Province beat Eastern Province 34-12 in Cape Town.

The Valke and Limpopo Blue Bulls, meanwhile, made their presence felt in the ‘B Division’. The Valke pipped the Pumas 12-10 in Kempton Park to remain the only unbeaten team, while the Limpopo Blue Bulls created an upset against Griquas as they dominated proceedings for a fantastic 52-34 victory.

The clash in Worcester proved to be a tale of two halves as the teams chipped away at each other in a tightly fought first half, with KwaZulu-Natal scoring only one try to take a narrow 7-0 lead. But the Durban-based team stuck to their structures in the second half and supported it with a fantastic defensive effort, which paved the way for total domination. With their attack functioning well, the team ran in six second-half tries, which marked their third bonus-point win in as many matches. For Boland, however, the scoreless defeat marked their second in a row, meaning they have yet to score a point in the competition.

Border, meanwhile, played their way to a 17-0 half time lead against SWD and completed the match with an encouraging six tries to the visitors’ one for their second bonus point win.

In Cape Town, a solid performance by the Western Province pack allowed them to bounce back from their season-opening defeat against the Blue Bulls for a convincing 34-12 victory against EP. The team’s scrums and lineouts were particularly impressive and they backed this up with a solid defensive effort. So effective was their attack they crossed the tryline five times, while the Port Elizabeth team battled to make their presence felt.
