Visser, Kriel ruled out

Vodacom Blue Bulls fullbacks Jurgen Visser and Jesse Kriel will not be available for Saturday’s Absa Currie Cup match against the Xerox Golden Lions in Pretoria.

Visser, in fact, will miss the rest of the season due to a foot injury and will be out of action for four months, whilst Kriel injured an ankle and will be out of two weeks.

Kriel’s injury was picked up against DHL Western Province on Saturday and the match also claimed prop Hencus van Wyk, who will spend two weeks on the touchlines.

Jacques du Plessis (quad, Tuesday), Van Wyk (ligament, 2-3 weeks), Kriel (ankle, 2-3 weeks) and Grant Hattingh (ankle Tuesday) will sit out training on Monday, team doctor Org Strauss confirmed.

Tony Jantjies (concussion) and Jacques-Louis Potgieter (ribs/tonsilitis) have made a full recovery and will train on Monday.

Visser joins Pierre Spies, Arno Botha, Firk Kirsten, Jaco Visagie and Flip van der Merwe on the long term injury list. Morne Mellett (knee) will be out for another two to three weeks.

Amongst the Under-21 squad there will be a return to action for Jermaine Kleinsmith, who has recovered from a knee operation, while Wilco Louw has flu and will train on Wednesday.

Dries Swanepoel (Achilles) will be assessed again on Thursday.

Jean Droste (contussion, Tuesday), JP Smith (ribs, 8 September), Marquit September (quad, 9 September), Kafentse Mahlo (MCL knee, 15 September), Duncan Matthews (quad, 22 September), Heinrich Viljoen (shins, 1 October) and Arno van Wyk (sindesmose, 13 October), are on the mend. Corniel Els (knee-op) will be able to train again on 1 January 2015).

The Under-19 will be without Dewald Human (ankle, 8 September), Dimitrio Tieties (ankle, awaiting sonar), Wyatt Murphy (shoulder, 29 September), Adrian Maebane (quad, 8 September), Heinrich Vreken (ankle, 22 September), Vuyo Kathide (hamstring, 8 September) and Warrick Gelant (ankle, 15 September).

Geor Malan (ankle), Phillip Orfer (hamstring), Attie Louw (quad), Jan van der Merwe (BLW), Jurie Linde (calf, Tuesday) and Duhan van der Merwe (knee, Tuesday) will all train this week.
