The Canterbury Rugby Football Union (CRFU) are pleased to announce the appointment of Aaron Webb to the role of Canterbury Rugby Academy Manager. Webb replaces Richard Smith who was appointed High Performance Leader of the Crusaders last month.

CRFU CEO Hamish Riach said the Rugby Academy Manager is a key position in supporting the future of rugby and the CRFU is thrilled to have been able to secure someone of Webb’s calibre and experience.

“We are delighted to be able to appoint Aaron into this role. We had applicants from around the world apply and Aaron’s experience and knowledge of working with young people shone through. We are looking forward to be able to utilise his experience in programme and people development skills to continue to grow the CRFU academy and to ensure it remains a premier development programme for Canterbury Rugby and the Crusaders.’

Webb will be responsible for managing and coordinating talent identification and player development programmes of the CRFU.  He said it is the opportunity to help develop young talent through the successful Canterbury Rugby Academy that attracted him to the role.

Webb says ‘I am excited about the opportunity and am looking forward to working with Canterbury Rugby and the wealth of young rugby talent we have in our midst. It is a privilege to be able to help develop young rugby players and ensure that talent continues to flow through the ranks.’

Webb joins Canterbury Rugby from Sport Canterbury where he is currently a Senior Manager leading the Young Person’s Sport Programme. Previous to this he was an Advisor for Active Youth.  Webb brings with him a wealth of coaching and mentoring experience of young people, both in New Zealand and overseas. He has been both a rugby player and coach, having been a member of Lincoln University and HSOB Rugby clubs, where he has coached their Colts programme.

Webb officially starts in the Academy Manager role on 10 June 2013.
