DHL Western Province Vodacom Cup squad will have a training session at Delft Rugby Club (in Delft) on Thursday, February 28 – from 14h00 to 16h00.

It is all part of Western Province’s intention to take the players to the communities within the Cape and comes hot on the heels of the DHL Stormers training session which was held at Collegians Rugby Football Club in Lentegeur two weeks ago.

WPRFU President Thelo Wakefield commented: “This is a great opportunity for members of the Delft community to rub shoulders with their Vodacom Cup-winning squad – as part of our programme to take rugby, and our players, to the community.

“The DHL WP Under-21s had a great welcome in Delft last year and we’re expecting a similar turn-out tomorrow.”

The DHL WP squad spent all of last week in Hermanus on a pre-season training camp, which head coach John Dobson described as “outstanding preparation” ahead of the 2013 season, but they are happy to be home again in Cape Town and visiting the rugby-mad Delft community.

“We went to Delft with the WP Under-21s last year and thoroughly enjoyed it and found it an enriching and powerful experience,” said Dobson.

“There is a strong rugby culture in the Delft community, which of course is facing some stiff challenges and anything we can do, however small, in helping face those is a privilege for us.

“The people are so friendly and welcoming of DHL WP and really keen on, and know, their rugby,” added Dobson. “Our President, Mr Wakefield, really has massive concern and love of this community and we are thrilled with this initiative.”

Kurt Coleman, Marcel Brache, Michael van der Spuy, Gerbrandt Grobler and Berton Klaasen – all of whom were part of WP’s 2012 Vodacom Cup campaign, at some point – will be amongst those DHL WP players in action at training at Delft on Thursday.

Newer faces, in the shape of Sikhumbuzo Notshe, Pat Howard, Cheslin Kolbe, Godlin Masimla, Rayn Smid, Tim Swiel and Francois van Wyk (to name just a few), will also be in attendance as members of this exciting, new WP squad.

DHL Western Province will kick-off their 2013 Vodacom Cup campaign with an away clash against neighbours, the Regent Boland Cavaliers, on March 9 – the same day that the DHL Stormers face the Chiefs in Super Rugby action at DHL Newlands.
