Paul TreuChris Dry will not travel with the Springbok Sevens to the Commonwealth Games because of a broken finger. The Free State Cheetahs Under-21 forward has already undergone surgery to repair the damage on his small finger on his right hand.

He will be out of action for at least three weeks. The Springbok Sevens management on Wednesday confirmed Okkie Kruger, the promising Vodacom Blue Bulls flank, as his replacement.

Meanwhile, the rest of the Springbok Sevens squad underwent their customary medical examinations yesterday following their victory in the inaugural Platinum International Sevens tournament over the weekend in Phokeng, Rustenburg.

There was some encouraging news for the injury-hit team – Boom Prinsloo (concussion) and MJ Mentz (shoulder), who both suffered knocks at Rustenburg, should recover in time to be considered for the Commonwealth Games Sevens on 10 – 11 October in Delhi, India.

South Africa opens the Commonwealth Sevens on 10 October with a match against Tonga and their other pool opponents are hosts India and IRB Sevens World Cup winners Wales.
Kruger is due to play on the flank for the Vodacom Blue Bulls against fierce rivals Vodacom Western Province at Loftus on Saturday in a crunch Absa Currie Cup fixture.

The SA squad will have one more training session on Friday in Stellenbosch before flying out to Dubai on Sunday.
